Beaumont End Extension
For added flexibility with your dining table, consider a Beaumont end extension table. This modern Parsons style table extends by adding leaves to the ends. With this design, the grain on the leaves runs across the table, creating a breadboard effect. The other dominant feature of this design is the legs themselves. The post legs come through the top of the table so you can see the difference in the grain. These corner accents become a focal point of this design. There may be a bit of ridge where the post meets the table top.
The key characteristics of this design are the corner post legs with the skirt. This structure provides a lot of strength and stability. With the legs tucked into the corners you can seat people as you like along the sides, giving lots of room for chair legs and people's legs. While this design does make it difficult to use the corners for seating, it gives you a lot of flexibility on how to use the table overall. On the Beaumont End Extension table, we strongly recommend 24" leaves to give the person sitting at the leaf enough space without crowding them into the post leg.Ā Other design details include a 6/4" thick table top with a traditional square Seymour edge.
